Build Your Own Gretsch - #2

This is a snare I'm keeping and we're using ourselves. Really nice Gretsch shell I got cheap 3 or 4 years ago, as the drill holes didn't align with the seam in the wrap. Founld Lightning throw on eBay, bought brand new buttplate from Dave's Drum Shop in Ottawa, added Champagne lugs and COB "stickchopper" hoops. Also Aquarian  American Vintage heads because these Gretsch shells are larger diameter, and conventional heads don't fit. I thought about rewrapping the shell but I liked the white pearl wrap, so did some minor surgery on it, and voila, a "build your own Gretsch" ...

6.5 x 14 Single Ply Walnut

This is a 6.5 x 14 single ply steambent shell from Vaughncraft. Wood is interesting as it has a definite reddish hue to it. Yamaha style lugs (20), "beer tap" throw, diecast rims (bottom is a new Pearl Mastercast, top is a used but very good condition hoop).

5 x 14 Mahogany

Here's a 5 x 14 mahogany snare. Shell is from Tee Drums (mahogany inner and outer plies, birch inner. Thin rerings (I would have preferred thicker rerings). Wood hoops (hide-a-heads) and hoop lugs. Lugs - brass and aluminum - from Champagne Drum (so are the wood hoops, actually). New wires, heads .... Built this for one of my old drum teachers.
