It's Not a Radio King, But ...

It will do nicely for now. I recently finished this 6.5 x 14 snare, built up on a nice Vaughncraft steambent single ply maple shell. Bearing edges are roundover with a 45 degree inside cut. Lugs are reproduction Beavertails. The wrap is an out of production "Malechite" wrap that I bought from Precision Drum (they have some interesting rare, no longer in production wraps). It's very hard (at least for me with my limited photography skills) to capture the colours of this wrap - black and green. Hoops are reproductions of "Sticksaver" hoops. The throw and buttplate are from drumsandsome.com.

Mahogany Monster

I've just finished this "rather large" snare - 8x14. It's built up on a "vintage style" mahogany shell - mahogany inner and outer plies, maple/ poplar inner core. The shell is 1/4" thick with10 ply rerings. Used a simple tung oil finish inside and out. 10 Ego lugs (they have "floating" swivel nut inserts - very nice lugs), Pearl S-020 "3 position" throw (Pearl installs them on their Dennis Chamber snares), Pearl wires (Pearl makes very good snare wires and they are low priced), and diecast rims (for now - may switch them out to triple flange hoops, I want to keep the diecasts for one of my personal projects that I'm just starting on a single ply steambent shell I've just received from Ego). Bottom hoop is a new Pearl Mastercast, top is used but VG.

African Mahogany Snare - 5 x 14

I posted this snare about a year ago when I first completed it. It has a very nice African mahogany shell from Erie Percussion that had been wrapped and had the interior stained, but hadn't been completed, when I bought it. I recently switched out the Pearl S-017 type strainer I had on it for a "vintage" (80's?) Pearl Gladstone type strainer, and installed a set of wood hoops I had on hand.

4 x 14 Turquoise Sparkle Piccolo

Another turquoise drum? This is a 4 x 14 piccolo snare I've just completed.

It has a 6 ply Keller maple shell with 6 ply rerings, with a turquoise sparkle wrap. Bearing edges are 45 degree with roundover. A few coats of tung oil gave the interior a nice glow. New hardware (single point aluminum lugs from Champagne Drum; throw & buttplate combo from Drum Factory Direct; triple flange hoops) and new Evans heads (G1 on top, Hazy on snare side). Really cracks.

Mint Ripple Isn't Just An Ice Cream Flavour

Back from summer holidays and finished up this baby. This is a 5 x 14 snare, 6 ply Keller maple shell with 6 ply re-rings. All new components from Drum Factory Direct (except the triple flange hoops). Finished with a really nice mint ripple wrap, and tung oil on the inside of the shell. Yum!
